Zephyr Organics is a company that is more than 15 years in the making. The farm’s transition from conventional products to completely certified organic products has taken several years. The transition has been for the better, for both consumers and Zephyr Organics. Business founder Ted Eng and his family have farmed for three generations. The family has put countless effort into the farm to produce quality produce. Over 80 acres of certified organic vegetables are grown on the company’s lands. In fact, there are approximately 40 different types of certified organics vegetables; consisting of anything from Asparagus to Zucchini. Located 100 kilometers from the city of Toronto in the Greater Toronto Area, Zephyr Organics can provide you with fresh local produce and help sustain a brighter future for our communities.

The Future Of Zephyr Organics

For this year and in future years, Zephyr Organics is planning to focus on serving the needs of consumers. Consumers are requesting expanded product selections and accessibility, but they still expect the best quality produce on the market. In response, we are adapting to address consumer needs. We plan to improve product awareness via new improved labels, launch our website, introduce the Farm Shares box program, and increase our advertising in stores and farmers’ markets.

Another major issue in the future of organic farming is production. Organic vegetable farms are very labour-intensive operations, and are experiencing rising costs due to wages increases in the coming years. It is our goal to find alternative methods that will reduce costs and pass on the savings to our customers. Zephyr Organics hires six full-time offshore labourers and between eight to ten students during the summer to help with production on the farm. Organic weed and pest control is a very intense and important part of the business. Timing and management is the key to successful weed and pest control. We are excited to introduce a one acre testing field for future product offerings at the front of our farm to be viewed by consumers.
